To train or not to train....

That is big question in my house right now. Baby is showing signs of being ready to potty train. Which really throws me off. I am used to training them after they are 3. Katelyn took so long to train and was so close to 4 that I don't know if I want to do this again so soon.

What is making me hesitate right now is our trip. We are leaving to go to California at the end of the week. Mike's sister is blessing her baby and since it is her first we are going down. We might even throw a surprise trip to Disneyland for the kids in there.

So my question is how many of you out there would want to potty train a child less than a week before you go on a long car trip and a day at an amusement park?

Mike and the girls keep pushing it. And it is driving me crazy! I keep telling them to stop and lay off! I will take care of it after we get home. But they keep asking her if she needs to go potty and helping her go potty (which involves Baby in no clothes every time). Everyday when Mike gets home from work he asks her if she went in the potty. And the kicker is that she has been going in the potty and wants to wear panties! She has done both in the potty with no problem! So I know she is ready but now right now! I do not want to deal with a newly potty trained child on a car trip and at Disneyland! Mike thinks we should just train her now. He seems to forget that on every car trip he goes to the bathroom by himself. I have 5 other people with me! I have to make sure that 4 kids all use the potty, wipe, flush, and wash their hands. We are quite a crowd in the bathrooms! I know that it will be 5 kids eventually but I am not ready for that yet.

Let's just make it clear...I am willing to potty train Baby but not right now. Let train her AFTER the trip!

Am I just being unreasonable about this? Everyone else in this house seems to wonder why I am holding off.

HELP!

Ok, I would say that you just put her in pull-ups. That way you're good either way. If you're at Disneyland and other kids need to go and she wants to join the potty party she can. I mean, you don't want to say, no, you can't go potty. (You just might have to, but you don't wanna.) It just might be a gradual thing instead of a production that, at least, I tend to think of it as. Just tell the girls that if they ask her if she needs to go potty that they MUST then go with her to supervise the bathroom trip, and they have to make sure she doesn't end up naked or they'll be in trouble. Good luck! (I hope this makes sense seeing as how my eyes keep closing on me. zzzzzz....)

I agree with Stacy. Our Ethan is also showing signs of potty training but not as good as your little one. He will tell us he has to go poop in the potty after he has already gone in his diaper. So we do the changing and everything standing at the toilet. I want to have it be gradual. Much easier on you as a Mom. I think potty training is very stressful.

As far as before your trip. I agree switch to pull-ups and let her go when she wants to. My feel is when you go to panties never turn back unless you decided to for naps and bed. So I guess my thoughts switch to pull-ups and worry about it when you get back. Nothing is worse than being in public and having to find a place to change a kid who just wet their pants. Good Luck!!

I totally agree with you and Stacy. Don't potty train now, but use pull ups for your trip. Good luck with it and have a fun and safe trip!!!!
